The human body is home to trillions of microorganisms known as microbiomes. This serves as the first line of defense against pathogens. Although microbiome is an important aspect of the baby's immune system, its presence in the baby's skin is still developing.
The Chairperson of the Indonesian Children's Dermatology Study Group, Dr. Srie Prihianti explained, in the early months, when the baby's immune system was still developing, their skin was 30 percent thinner and more sensitive than adult skin. Thus, the baby's skin is easier and faster to lose moisture and prone to irritation and infection.
"Therefore, mothers should pay attention to baby's skin care, especially in maintaining the baby's skin moisture," said Dr. Srie Prihianti on the sidelines of the launch of Johnson's CottonTouch in Jakarta, Thursday (1/8/2019).
According to Dr. Srie, mothers should not be careless in using baby's skin care. For that, you should make sure to use baby products that are tested to be soft and smooth, maintain and increase skin moisture, also make sure not to damage the pH balance or microbiome of the skin.
"The balance of skin microbiome is one important factor that plays a role in the baby's first skin defense system from the influence of the outside world. That is to avoid irritation and infection," he explained.
Marketing Manager of Johnson's Indonesia, Fika Yolanda said, it understands that baby's skin has a different sensitivity and humidity than adults.
"Therefore, through continuous learning about baby's skin together with experts, pediatricians, and pediatric dermatologists, we want to meet the needs of parents in providing the best and gentle products specially formulated for babies, namely Johnson's CottonTouch," said Fika.
Furthermore, Fika said, it believes in the benefits of a touch of love between parents and their babies. This new product innovation, specifically designed to be the ideal product for building bonds through touch and increasing natural interaction between parents and babies.
"We have learned that the touch of parental love is fundamental and very good stimulation for baby's sensory development as a whole," said Fika.
